Bank of England Museum Late: Learning Through Games
April 18 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The event is free and drop-in, except for the talk which must be booked in advance.
Join us for an evening exploring learning through play. Many children learn financial literacy skills through play. Today, this can take place in a board game or a video game. Come play nostalgic board games which teach financial literacy skills. Or, check out some of the latest video games which will be demoed by our friends from the London Games Festival. And, join us for a free talk on how video games change how we think, use, and learn about money.
Board games
April is Financial Literacy Month, and we’re exploring the ways we learn about money. Many board games involve informal use of money management and strategy. As a kid you play any games involving money?
Come along to our games night and see for yourself! We will provide a few board games on the night, but bringing your own is also encouraged.
Live game demos
Enjoy a selection of games from the London Games Festival’s 2024 Official Selection, playable on cutting edge new handheld devices – Steam Decks and Playdates. Every year the London Games Festival curates an annual line-up of brand new unreleased games from independent creators around the globe, with categories including Made in London, International Innovators, Best of British, Comedy and New Voices. Plus, come and see what iconic currencies from some of the world’s most famous games would look like in the real world in a special mini-exhibition of handmade props.

Talk – Learning through Games: In-game economies
Visit the Bank of England Museum during the London Gaming Festival for a talk about how games are creating their own economies, integrating with the outside world, and their impact on our lives.
We are delighted to welcome senior representatives from leading gaming companies as they explore the world of games, financial education, and the ways these two realms are linked more closely than you might think…
