Ahead of London Games Festival 2019, we are catching up with the people organising the wide variety of events that make up the Festival Fringe.
Today, Sea Sylph Games narrative designer Ben Sabin tells us about Rumpus Party: Victoriana VS Futur-ama, which is set to take Islington Metal Works by storm on Friday, 5 April at 10 pm until dawn the next day!
Tell us a bit about your event.
The Victorians VS The Futurists is a live-action game that will be played throughout the night of Rumpus. Players will join one of the two factions, and compete to earn their faction the most prestige! They’ll do this by finding several of the neutral people dispersed throughout the venue and gaining their favour through various activities and quests. Whichever faction has the most prestige by 2am, will earn the right to join Robot Queen Victoria’s court.
Who is this event for?
Anyone who wants that little something extra from their standard rave. The game is non-linear and can be picked up and played by interacting with any of the involved installations throughout the night.
Why should people come along?
Well, they’ll be able to enjoy the sheer amazingness that is Rumpus anyway. This is an added bonus! If people want to try their hand at a live-action game with a bit more bite, this is for them.
Why were you keen to be involved in London Games Festival?
Rumpus has been involved with the London Games Festival for the past three years, with Sea Sylph Games providing a unique game each time. The players always come away with tremendous feedback, both for the game, and Rumpus as a whole.
What games do you enjoy?
A mixture of obscure, indie titles like Hypnospace Outlaw, Long Dark, A Night in the Woods, etc. We’re also massive fans of the Switch and the usual goodness that comes out on it!
