Ahead of London Games Festival 2019, we are catching up with the people organising the wide variety of events that make up the Festival Fringe.
Shay Thompson, Xbox Interactive Streamer over at Attention Seekers, tells us about networking event Level Up Link Up, which is set to take place on Saturday 13 April between 7pm and 10pm at Workers’ Dalston
Tell us a bit about your event.
Level Up Link Up is a networking event created to help bridge the gap between newcomers and established industry professionals in games. Our aim is to get more people of colour into the games industry but especially those of African and Caribbean heritage.
Who is this event for?
We showcase and uplift Black games industry professionals but encourage those of all backgrounds to attend. Not only will you come away learning about experiences outside of your own but you’ll also expand your professional and social networks.
Why should people come along?
Our panellist Nareice Wint will be discussing her journey into games development and dishing out tangible tips on how to get into the games industry.
After our Q&A there will be mingling alongside some Mario Kart, Overcooked and Super Smash Bros. There will also be cake! Who says no to cake?
Why were you keen to be involved in London Games Festival?
I think the London Games Festival has been doing incredible work bringing gaming to the mainstream and showing that as a creative industry, it’s a force to be reckoned with. Similarly, I wanted to highlight BAME talent working within games and uplift as many people around us as possible.
What games do you enjoy?
Streaming is my full-time job so I’ve come to appreciate a whole host of genres that I previously didn’t touch like shooters and flight simulators. Fighting games and RPGs tend to be my go tos though. Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact (not 3rd Strike – gasp!) and Mass Effect 2 are some favourites that come to mind.
