Meet the Fringe 2019 – Gamerdisco

Ahead of London Games Festival 2019, we are catching up with the people organising the wide variety of events that make up the Festival Fringe.

This time around we’re lucky enough to be dancing on down with the organisers of GamerDisco, Gareth Swann and Rory Steele, which is taking place at Loading Bar’s Shepherd’s Bush on Wednesday, 3 April at 7pm

Tell us a bit about your event.
Started in 2010, GamerDisco is a video games and music events company – we’ve worked with some of the biggest names in gaming at official events, launches, festivals and afterparties, showcased top chiptune and electronic music artists, and collaborated with DJ Yoda on his History of Gaming AV Show. Our event at Loading Shepherd’s Bush is one of our regular nights every month, where we run tournaments on some of the best titles around in a fun and casual setting, all to a BGM of video game themes and remixes, as well as chiptune, electronic music and assorted bleeps and beats.

Who is this event for?
We welcome everyone of every gaming ability, anyone keen to try out a mix of games, old and new. Our tournaments and high score challenges are for a casual crowd rather than for the pros, and there are always freeplay options too, plus Loading’s extensive range of board and tabletop games to enjoy. Even if you don’t pick up a controller all night, it’s just a great place to hang out, have a drink, and enjoy some tunes!

Why should people come along?
It’s free entry, we’ll have a line-up of fun and interesting titles, and if you sign up to our tournaments on the night, you might walk away with a prize from our GamerDisco goodie bag!

Why were you keen to be involved in London Games Festival?
Although we have run events around the country, London is our home and where we run our regular nights twice a month. London Games Festival provides a great opportunity to put a spotlight on the range of video game-related activities that take place in the capital, and we are proud to be part of that.

What games do you enjoy?
The best games for our events are those that can be played together all in the same room – that shared, social experience that can’t be replicated at home or online quite as well. So while classics like Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II will always draw a crowd, recent indie multiplayer titles like Tricky Towers, Gang Beasts, and Laser League go down a storm too.

Gamerdisco is taking place at Loading Bar’s Shepherd’s Bush location at on Wednesday, 3 April at 7pm. More information can be found here
